National Braai Day - promote social cohesion

Across race, language, region and religion, South Africans share a common heritage.  It is called many things: for example Chisa Nyama, Braai and Ukosa.  When we have something to celebrate we light fires and prepare great feasts.

Project Objectives

Positioning National Heritage Day, 24 September, as South Africa’s annual day of celebration – with South Africans gathering around fires as the central theme of the celebration.

Developing Braai4Heritage comparable to the annual celebrations cherished by other countries; for example Thanksgiving for the United States, St Patricks Day for the Irish, Bastille Day for the French and Australia Day for Australians.

Supporting National Heritage Day, to recognise its importance to all South Africans and to play a part and unlock its value in strengthening South Africa as a nation.
